Make the request easier to quote

Turn a vague pallet request into a quote-ready load

Specific freight and site details help carriers assess equipment, timing and likely inclusions before they respond.

Example

Vague versus quote-ready

Too vague

“Move 4 pallets from Sydney to Brisbane.”

Better

Quote-ready

“Four wrapped, non-stackable pallets, 1.2m x 1.2m x 1.4m at 350kg each. Forklift at pickup; tailgate lift needed for residential delivery. Photos of the packaging attached. Ready Thursday; delivery within the week.”

Every job is different, so adapt this to your load rather than copying it word for word.

What carriers assess

Pallet equipment and quote factors

Equipment fit

How the pallets will be loaded

A forklift, loading dock, tailgate lift or pallet jack may be needed at each end.

Site access

Where the truck can safely work

Residential streets, depots, warehouses and construction sites each change the vehicle and handling required.

Timing

Ready time and delivery window

Urgent and same-day requests limit which carriers can respond; realistic windows attract more quotes.

Quote clarity

What is included in the price

Ask about depot, residential, redelivery, waiting and equipment charges and whether the quote is door-to-door.

Common questions

Pallet freight transport FAQs

These answers help you prepare useful details so your load can be delivered faster.

How should a pallet be wrapped and secured?

Goods should sit within the pallet edges and be strapped or shrink-wrapped to the pallet. Note anything fragile or temperature-sensitive so the carrier can confirm suitable handling before they quote.

Why do exact dimensions and weight matter?

Dimensions and weight determine the vehicle, the loading equipment and how your pallets fit with other freight. Accurate figures reduce follow-up questions and prevent failed pickups or revised prices.

Do I need a forklift or tailgate lift?

If either end has no forklift or loading dock, tell the carrier so they can quote a tailgate vehicle or bring suitable equipment. Assume nothing is available on site unless you confirm it.

Can the pallets be stacked?

Confirm whether your pallets can safely have others stacked on top. Stackable pallets use trailer space more efficiently and can attract sharper part-load pricing.

What changes for residential pickup or delivery?

Residential jobs often need smaller vehicles, tailgate lifts and more handling time. Describe street access, driveways and any obstacles so the carrier can confirm the right setup.

What should be included in a pallet quote?

Ask whether the quote covers door-to-door service, loading equipment, depot fees, redelivery, waiting time and GST, so you can compare quotes on the same basis.

For Carriers

Send a stronger pallet freight quote

Help the shipper understand your timing, equipment fit, questions and price inclusions before they award the load.

01

State your vehicle type, pallet capacity, tailgate or pallet-jack availability, route schedule and service type.

02

Confirm pallet dimensions, total weight, stackability, loading facilities, dangerous-goods status and access before award.

03

Make depot, residential, redelivery, waiting and equipment charges clear in the quote.

Quote example

Illustrative only

“I have a tautliner with tailgate passing Sydney to Brisbane on Thursday. Price covers pickup, delivery and tailgate unloading at the residence; waiting beyond 30 minutes and redelivery are extra. Please confirm the pallets are wrapped and non-stackable.”
